Tahuayo Lodge, Cabin

Tahuayo Lodge Description

After leaving the vessel, stepping out for the first time onto the wooden platform at the river’s edge, you will be helped you to your room. When you walk up the few steps to the lodge, you will see the dining hall surrounded by a green net, which will keep out any unwanted visitors while enjoying the delicious food. To your left there is a walkway leading to the Tahuayo Lodge laboratory and library you can explore after relaxing in your room. Your room consists of a comfortable four post bed draped with a mosquito net to keep you comfortable on your stay. After you have dropped off your luggage you are free to explore lodge at your leisure.

Tahuayo Lodge Rooms

The Tahuayo lodge is rustic yet comfortable with 15 rooms in total. Dependent on your requirements, we will assign you either a honeymoon cabin with a single large bed, a cabin with two beds, or a family cabin with one large bed and several single beds. Each cabin is raised above the forest floor on stilts and connected to the rest of the lodge by a raised boardwalk. The raising above the floor means there is minimal effect on wildlife and keeps the lodge dry so you dont experience flooding in the wet season. The other buildings we have are a large dining hall, areas for you to relax and socialize, and the laboratory complete with library so you can look up all the animals you have seen.

Elecricity

There is some electricity provided by solar panels and batteries, and we have kerosene lighting, but it is best if you bring a torch just in case. A generator is provided for you to recharge camera batteries etc. The electrical outlets are for Peru 220v plugs and US 110v plugs.

Food

Your food is prepared by culinary staff and the cooks frequently get complimented (special diets can be accommodated with prior notice). We have  experience in sanitary food, water handling, and preparation. This means you can eat anything served at the lodge, even salads and unpeeled fruit, items generally not recommended for tourists in South America.

Laundry and Bathrooms

We offer you a laundry service, which is unique among jungle lodges, and have modern flush toilets. Half of our cabins now have new private bathrooms. The other half of our cabins have shared bathrooms. Cabins with private bathrooms are assigned on the basis of earliest reservation.

Itinerary

For a selection of things to see and do in the reserve you can have a look at our Itineraries page. You can also view our Amazon weddings and survival in the Amazon Rainforest articles.
