Tucano Amazon Cruise Description

Exploring some of the most untouched areas of the Amazon Rainforest, on the Tucano Amazon Cruise you are guided down the Rio Negro and through areas of Amazon River out of reach on other tours. We are the only vessel able to tour one of the largest Amazonian reserves, the Central Amazon Ecological Corridor.

Tucano Amazon Cruise Cabins

Tucano Amazon Cruise Introduction – Rainforest Expeditions

You begin the Tucano Amazon Cruise in Manaus, northern Brazil, and over seven full days are navigated upstream on the Rio Negro. You are not confined to the vessel, and during daylight hours and often at night, you can explore the forest with naturalist guides for wildlife. We provide small boats so you can explore small streams and waterways of the Amazon River. Of an evening, you can join discussions about wildlife observed during the day and sometimes head out in small boats to see caiman.

Tucano Amazon Cruise – The Meeting of the Waters

The Tucano Amazon Cruise takes will take you 200 miles from Manaus to explore the Amazon, voyaging the many tributaries enroute. This is where the forest is at its most untouched. The last days of the expedition are at the meeting of the Amazon River and the Rio Negro. Because the rivers don’t readily mix you can see the dark Rio Negro running alongside the lighter Amazon River; the rivers remain unmixed for many miles. On the tour, you will also visit homes of deep forest settlers. This gives you the chance to talk with them about their way of life and hear about plants they utilise for medicine and food. Tucano Amazon Cruise – Flooded Forest

You will also visit terra firme and varzea forests to see colourful birds, monkeys, and magnificent rainforest trees.

Tucano Amazon Cruise Daily Schedule

The schedule varies each day, but you do follow a rough outline of activities. Every morning you wake with the sun, to search for wildlife in small boats or trek through the forest in search howler monkeys. You can then return mid-morning for a full Brazilian breakfast, relax, and go on another excursion into the forest. At around noon, the vessel gets underway and we travel until late afternoon, when most animals come out again to feed. About two hours before sunset, you can embark on an excursion to some other place of interest. In the evenings we have an informal talk about what we expect to see the following day. Some evenings, from the comfort of the small boats, we will spot wildlife with powerful searchlights.

Tucano Amazon Cruise Expeditions

We accept a maximum of only 18 passengers on each Tucano Amazon Cruise. This is in order to stay focussed on Nature. On excursions, we divide into still smaller groups guided by our onboard naturalists. Please view the Tucano deckplan to become familiar with our vessel.

We see and do a great deal in the forest, but there is plenty of time to relax and have fun during the trip. We swim in some of the cleanest water in the world. The Rio Negro is almost identical to rainwater.

Our trips take place in one of the least inhabited parts of the Amazon, in the State of Amazonas, Brazil. This is one of the most pristine areas in all of the Amazon Rainforest.
