The national bird of Peru, the Andean cock-of-the-rock is only found in the Andes. There is another species of cock-of-the-rock, Rupicola rupicola, which occurs in the Guiana Shield and differs in appearance. The Andean cock-of-the-rock males perform displays on leks to entice females. The males confront each other aggressively and get more intense when females appear.
