Laughing Kookaburra
|

The most obvious feature of a laughing kookaburra is its powerful beak. They use this to catch small reptiles, insects, fish, and amphibians like the frog in this photograph. Laughing kookaburras have a white head with a brown streaking mark through their eye. They have a dark back and an attractive pale blue splash on their wing. Kookaburras co-operate in a family where the dominant pair breed, assisted in rearing by a few helpers from the previous brood. They all help with defending their territory and the famous kookaburra call alerts other birds of the family’s boundaries.
