Satin Bower Bird (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus)

With its handsome glossy blue-black colouration, adult male satin bower birds can be seen demonstrating very interesting behaviour. They build bowers made from sticks and twigs, in this species consisting of an upside down arch. The front of the bower is decorated with blue objects specifically chosen by the males. This is his stage where he dances to hopefully impress the watching female. The females and juvenile males are a green colour with speckles of grey-green underneath.
