Platypus

Platypuses are among Australia’s most iconic animals. Along with the echidna, they are the only egg laying mammals found on Earth. They have a soft and pliable electro-sensitive bill, a streamlined fur-covered body, and webbed feet. They have a dark covering of fur with a paler and sometimes golden underside. If this wasn’t as bizzarre a body plan as you can think of when compared to other living animals, the males also have a poison tipped spur on the inner side of each hind limb. This is used against predators, other males, and can inflict a painful injury to people. Platypuses live in burrows along the banks and prefer slow moving streams in which to forage.
