Carpet Python
|

Carpet pythons have a varied appearance and are currently spilt into a number of subspecies based on colouration. They are found in a range of habitats from shrubland, forest, to semi-arid environments. They are known to eat prey up to 60% the snake’s body weight, and for a mature carpet python this means they can eat possums, wallabies, and even cats and dogs. Like other pythons, they are non-venomous and kill prey by constriction. They are thought to have a home range of about 12 hectares, although there is considerable variation. Carpet pythons are semi-arboreal, living part of the times in trees and part of the time on the ground. Although nocturnal, they may be spotted in mornings when seeking a sunny place to bask.
