The rainforest harpy eagle is among the world’s largest birds of prey and is the most powerful in the Amazon Rainforest. The talons of this magnificent bird reach 13 cm and eagles are often spotted with prey like a sloth or monkey. Harpy eagles have a white underside with a black upper chest and crown of grey feathers atop their majestic heads. They nest in the Amazon’s tallest trees producing two eggs every other year, although only one of these is raised. The other is ignored and fails to hatch.
